Yah Gbunblee Tongor is a dedicated community leader, healthcare professional, and advocate for education and development in Nimba County, Liberia. Born into a family of seven, she began her early education in Nimba County and graduated as salutatorian from Gbarnga United Methodist Mission School. She continued her studies at Cuttington University before earning a Bachelor’s degree in Human Services and Nursing from La Salle University in Philadelphia. She later obtained a Master’s degree in Public and Global Health from Liberty University and is currently completing her training as a Family Nurse Practitioner, further strengthening her expertise in healthcare and community wellness.

Mrs. Tongor has demonstrated a lifelong commitment to service both in Liberia and the diaspora. In 2011, she returned to Liberia to run for public office in District #8, reflecting her dedication to national development. She is the founder and Executive Director of the Kou Yorway Foundation, which provides scholarships, supports students in Nimba County and Monrovia, and organizes outreach programs for children. Through partnerships with faith-based organizations, she has also supported church development and is contributing to the construction of a school in Ganta, helping to nurture future leaders with strong moral and ethical values.

In the diaspora, Mrs. Tongor has played a key role in uniting Nimba County citizens in Ohio, helping to establish the Nimba County Educational and Cultural Association of Ohio and leading its merger with UNICCO in 2018. Her ongoing work with UNICCO includes advancing educational initiatives, strengthening community relationships in Liberia, and promoting collaboration across the diaspora. With her strong leadership experience, clear vision, and commitment to education, healthcare, transparency, and partnerships, she is well positioned to lead UNICCO and expand its impact both at home and abroad.
